Relocation Appraisers and Consultants 2018 Conference Recap
I’d like to extend a warm greeting to all of you out there and introduce myself. My name is Byron Miller and I am the 2019 RAC president. For those of you who attended our conference in Plano, Texas I hope you had a wonderful time and a safe trip home. For those of you that couldn’t make it, you missed one of our best conferences yet. In addition, to those folks that couldn’t make the conference, I’ll give you an overview of what you missed.
Day one of our conference kicked off with our 2018 President Jonathan Miller’s opening remarks. Jeff Sherman, vice president of the Appraisal Institute then gave a presentation on current industry events affecting appraisers. Dwellworks’ Tim Evanko presented a session on the HGTV effects on the relocation market. Ted Whitmer followed and gave a thought provoking presentation on transferred value in appraisals. Then RAC’s own Michael Cook, gave an interactive presentation on forecasting adjustments. The last presentation of the day concluded with a series of roundtable topics ranging from building materials to appraiser marketing. At the end of day one, there was a reception honoring past RAC presidents and new members.
Day two got off to a great start with Vicki Hamp & Patricia Ann Pollard discussing Real Estate trends. The next session led by Carrie Dare of Fidelity Residential Property Services discussed appraisal train wrecks. Peter Christiansen of LIA Insurance gave a great presentation about appraiser liability and minimizing your risk of being sued. Marty Shaw presented on the valuation of trees & shrubs. The conference concluded with a fireside chat and the announcement of the winner of the 2018 ERC report writing contest.
Speaking of the report writing contest, I’d like to thank the over two dozen who entered. I’m pleased to announce this year’s winner is a new RAC member, Paul Lewis from Orono, Minnesota. Paul is a second generation appraiser with over two decades of appraising experience. Please reach out and congratulate Paul. He can be reached at paullewisappraiser@gmail.com.
Stay tuned for details of next year’s conference which is Sept 19th – 21st, 2019 in Plano, TX. Betsy Hughes and vice president Craig Stebner are co-chairs. They have some exciting topics and events planned for 2019’s conference. I think it’s going to be the best conference yet! Please save the date.
Best Regards,
