RAC President’s Message

Lisa Meinczinger - Gulden

Happy Fall!

It has been a whirlwind since the conclusion of our annual conference in October. The conference was a resounding success, with outstanding attendance and the invaluable opportunity to network and reconnect with colleagues and friends.

The lineup of presenters was exceptional, offering highly informative sessions. Michael Jackson, Linda Nesper, Kevin Felder, and Howard Decena provided insightful updates on the relocation industry and how changes to broker-buyer compensation are impacting the relocation process.

Craig Steinley and Scott Dibiasio covered appraiser modernization, PAREA, and broader topics in appraisal. Scott Reuter and Lyle Radke discussed the much-anticipated UAD redesign, while Craig Gilbert and Kathryn Yukevich presented timely and engaging litigation topics. LaTasha Posey delivered a vital update on upcoming tax issues for 2025 and entertained us with the humorous question of whose closet—hers or Mr. Posey's—was larger.

Brian Reynolds presented a compelling class on diversifying appraisal practices, while Joe Palumbo, Mark Gronke, and Jessie Ruckel led a pivotal panel on AMC dynamics, reminding us of the good and bad players in the space.

A heartfelt thank you to all who attended and presented at the conference. Your participation is what makes this event truly special.

A special thanks to our sponsors: Fidelity Residential Solutions, Worth Valuation Services, OREP Insurance, LIA, Appraisal Institute Trust, Appraisal Institute North Texas Chapter, Appraisal Institute, LaTasha Posey, Appraiser eLearning, and Ebby Halliday. Your sponsorship and support are essential to RAC’s success.

The TAFAC meeting took place in Crystal City, WV, on November 17–18, 2024. On the 17th, the CARE (Council to Advance Residential Equity) addressed the HUD billboards and explored ways to better educate the public on the mortgage loan process, from application to closing.

Brad Sweeney, Chair of the Appraiser Qualifications Board, shared updates on exploring alternative paths to entry, including potentially replacing the college degree requirement. PAREA was a key focus, with program participants achieving a 100% state exam pass rate. The foundation is optimistic, with over 4,000 individuals expressing interest and significant progress through the Pathway to Success scholarships.

The Appraiser Standards Board discussed the use of Artificial Intelligence in appraisal reports, covering how to report it, competency requirements, and associated liabilities. They are also working on the next 7-hour USPAP update and assembling the next round of standards.

As we look forward to an exciting year ahead, let us take time during the holidays to focus on what truly matters—our families and the moments that bring joy. This year has been a reminder to prioritize the important things and tune out the noise.

Wishing you a happy, safe holiday season. Be well and take care!
